Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine).
Biologically used as “PLP” (pyridoxal-5-phosphate), this essential vitamin is used in over 140 enzyme reactions, used to make hemoglobin, histamine, and some neurotransmitters; used in gene expression; and is a coenzyme in many metabolic pathways. Plants make PLP via sunlight, but animals cannot make it, thus PLP is an essential nutrient. Deficiency may result in a mild, itchy rash, and both sensory and motor neuropathy.

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin).
Metabolically active as methylcobalamin (methyl B12 or mB12), dietary deficiency may happen in those who follow a vegan diet, have intestinal malabsorption, or certain genetic disorders. Symptoms of deficiency may include pins and needles sensation, numbness, poor heart function, generalized weakness, poor memory, poor vision, irritability, ataxia, poor taste, or smell, mood or cognitive dysfunction, infertility, and more. Up to 50% of people are at least marginally deficient in B12.

Alpha lipoic acid.
This organosulfur compound is a powerful antioxidant and a cofactor for at least five enzymes in our bodies. Supplied in this blend at more than 500 times the typical dietary intake, absorption is decreased to a degree if taken with food. This compound functions like the B vitamins and has been approved in Germany over 50 years as a drug used for diabetic neuropathy. In 2018, an alpha lipoic acid study showed it aided in weight loss.

Benfotiamine.
This thiamine (vitamin B1) analog is better absorbed in thiamine, and also, being a sulfur containing nutrient, it seems to reduce inflammation with common uses in diabetic neuropathy and Alzheimer’s disease. Several studies have been done that seem to point to improvement in existing and prevention of diabetic neuropathy.

Skullcap (Scutellaria sp.).
From a native plant in the northern hemisphere, skullcap has been used commonly for anxiety, memory, gastrointestinal, and heart health. It aids in GABA activity, anti-cancer, antibacterial and more. Baicalin is likely the primary responsible for the antioxidant effects. However, there are over 50 flavonoids in this plant that are likely responsible for the anti-inflammatory and mood benefits.

Acetyl-L-carnitine.
This is crucial in energy production in the body. Specifically, acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) is neuroprotective and also helps in burning fat for fuel (lipolysis) as it transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, and secondarily aids in detoxification. L-Carnitine seems to help in heart failure, general endurance, and in reducing fatigue in cancer chemotherapy use.
